AIMS - To assess, whether Culotte technique could be improved by an additional kissing dilation prior main branch (MB) stenting. METHODS AND RESULTS - Double-kissing (DK) Culotte was compared to Culotte and DK-Crush techniques in bench model (n=24). Results were evaluated for stent apposition, for luminal opening and for flow dynamics.Total procedure duration of DK-Culotte was 18.3±3.4min, si...
Pulmonary Hypertension Caused by a Coconut Left Atrium
Clinical Case Study | By EC Leung, N Hirani et al.
“Coconut atrium” was first described in 1898 and is most commonly associated with rheumatic heart disease. This case demonstrates a dramatic chest x-ray image of extensive circumferential calcification of the left atrium. The abnormality was thought to result in elevated pulmonary pressures and severe right heart failure in the absence of significant mitral valve dysfunction.

BACKGROUND - In our 2015 systematic review and meta-analysis of cardiovascular outcome trials for glucose-lowering drugs or strategies in people with or at risk of type 2 diabetes, we reported a modest reduction in atherosclerotic cardiovascular events and an increased risk of heart failure, but with heterogeneous effects by drug or intervention type. In view of the completion of many large cardiovascular outcome trials since our previous analysi...
Double-Kiss-Crush Bifurcation Stenting: Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
Original Research | By AB Hall, I Chavez, S Garcia et al.
The Double-Kiss-crush (DK crush) is the most studied two-stent coronary bifurcation stenting strategy. While published data support its use, DK crush can be challenging to perform. In this review we provide a detailed step-by-step description and troubleshooting for each stage of the DK crush technique.

OBJECTIVES - The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical outcomes and transcatheter heart valve hemodynamic parameters after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in low-risk patients with bicuspid aortic stenosis (AS). BACKGROUND - TAVR is approved for low-risk patients in the United States. However, patients with bicuspid AS were excluded from the randomized cohorts o...

OBJECTIVES - The aim of this study was to determine the utility of rapid atrial pacing immediately after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) to predict the need for permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI). BACKGROUND - Risk stratification for patients without high-grade atrioventricular block (AVB) after TAVR is imprecise and based on anatomic considerations, electrocardiogra...

OBJECTIVES -The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical and echocardiographic outcome data of the CHOICE (Randomized Comparison of Transcatheter Heart Valves in High Risk Patients with Severe Aortic Stenosis: Medtronic CoreValve Versus Edwards SAPIEN XT) trial at 5 years. BACKGROUND - The CHOICE trial was designed to compare device performance of a balloon-expandable (BE) tran...
